How we check our parent guides

Useful first. Clear about the evidence. Honest about what one activity cannot prove.

Who is responsible?

Pocket Money Adventures CIC is responsible for every guide we publish. Nathan Waldron founded Pocket Money Adventures and wrote Ava Saves Up!. A guide only names a person as a writer or reviewer when that person has done the work and agreed to be named.

How we research a guide

  1. Start with the parent’s real question. We put the sentence to use and the safe next step before background detail.
  2. Check current UK sources. We prefer MoneyHelper and MaPS, GOV.UK, regulators such as the FCA, CMA, Ofcom and ICO, and primary research.
  3. State the limit. We check the ages, sample and study type. An association is not called a cause. An opinion is not called a rule.

What we will not claim

  • Money habits are fixed by age seven.
  • One amount of pocket money, chore rule or saving split is right for every family.
  • A child card, book or activity will prevent debt or guarantee later success.
  • A refund, calm shop or change in behaviour is certain.
  • A named person or organisation approved our work when they did not.

Plain language and access

We aim for a reading age close to 10, without speaking down to parents. We use short sentences, common words and clear headings. Activities include choices such as pointing, signing, AAC, eye-gaze, watching or passing. We also look for a no-spend and no-printer route.

Privacy and sales

Parent activities do not ask for a child’s name, photo, school, balance or household income. Our guides and printables are free. When we link our own book, we label it as our product and state that no purchase is needed.

Tools, reviews and endorsements

We may use software to help with drafting, reading-age checks, link checks and technical tests. Pocket Money Adventures CIC remains responsible for what is published. A check against public guidance is not an endorsement by the source, Martin Lewis or MoneySavingExpert.
